Cadillac lose first F1 point as Perez hit with post-race penalty in Monaco

Cadillac have lost what initially marked their first point in F1 after Sergio Perez picked up a post-race time penalty in Monaco for an infringement at the final race restart.

Perez moved into points contention across Sunday afternoon’s incident-packed Grand Prix around the streets of the Principality, which featured multiple crashes, Safety Cars and a red flag.

He eventually crossed the line in 10th place, earning Cadillac a valuable point, but was subsequently investigated for being out of position on the grid at the restart after the red flag.

Once the stewards had looked into the matter, a 10-second penalty was sent in Perez’s direction, dropping the Mexican from P10 to P15 – and making him the final finisher of the day.

“The stewards heard from the driver of Car 11 [Perez], [a Cadillac] team representative, and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video and in-car video evidence,” read the panel’s verdict.

“Video evidence showed clearly that the front-right wheel of Car 11 was outside the starting box. The standard penalty is applied.”

This added to a drive-through penalty that Perez served during the race for parking in the wrong grid slot at the original start – lining up 16th, rather than 18th, after Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto moved to the pit lane.

Finally, in another incident during the reconnaissance laps to the grid, Perez was reprimanded by the stewards for making a practice start in the wrong position.
