FACTS AND STATS: A super seventh US win sees Verstappen cut title deficit

A Sprint win, pole position and a dominant Grand Prix victory – the numbers looked all but perfect for Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in Austin. But don’t be fooled, there were plenty of other fascinating figures generated by Sunday’s showdown at the Circuit of The Americas. Here’s our round-up of the best…

• Verstappen becomes the first driver to win seven Grands Prix in the United States (four in Austin, two in Miami, one in Las Vegas).

• Verstappen has scored 119 of a possible 133 points in the last five Grand Prix weekends.

• Verstappen finished 1m 12s behind the race winner in Hungary, just six races ago.

• Verstappen is now 40 points off the championship lead. That deficit was 104 points only four races ago.

• This was the fifth consecutive Grand Prix to be won from pole this season, with the winning driver leading 281 out of 294 laps in that time.

• Verstappen now has 122 career podium finishes, tied with Sebastian Vettel for third on the all-time list.

• This was Verstappen’s fifth consecutive podium finish (he only scored five podium finishes in the first 14 Grands Prix this year).

• P2 for Lando Norris was the McLaren driver’s 15th podium finish of the season, more than any other driver.

• Norris has reduced the championship deficit to team mate Oscar Piastri to 14 points.

• Charles Leclerc – P3 for Ferrari – has now completed a full year without a race win (his last victory was Austin 2024).

• It was Ferrari’s first podium finish for six Grands Prix.

• Leclerc is the highest driver in the championship without a win this season (fifth).

• Lewis Hamilton finished in P4 and has now completed 19 Grands Prix for Ferrari without finishing on the podium (a new team record).

• Hamilton finished fourth in a Grand Prix for the fourth time this season.

• Hamilton has never scored fewer than five podium finishes in an F1 season (he has zero podium finishes in 2025).

• Piastri took P5 and has had no podium finish in any of the last three Grands Prix (22 points scored).

• Mercedes’ George Russell finished in P6 – the same position he achieved when starting from the pit lane in the 2024 race.

• Yuki Tsunoda’s P7 for Red Bull was his best-ever result at the Circuit of The Americas.

• Tsunoda has scored 16 points in the last three race weekends (he managed just 12 in the first 16 race weekends this year).

• Nico Hulkenberg’s P8 for Kick Sauber was his first points finish since his podium result at Silverstone.

• Hulkenberg moves up to ninth in the Drivers’ Championship (matching his season-high).

• Hulkenberg finished eighth in Austin for the second consecutive season.

• It was Sauber’s best Austin result since Hulkenberg finished sixth in 2013, his only previous season with the team.

• With P9 for Oliver Bearman, Haas scored in their home race for the second consecutive year.

• Bearman has finished ninth in consecutive Grands Prix this season.

• Fernando Alonso’s P10 for Aston Martin was his eighth Grand Prix points finish of the 2025 season.

• With a best of P11 for Liam Lawson, Racing Bulls finished the weekend pointless for the second straight race (after a five-race scoring streak).

• Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli (P13) set the fastest lap of the race for the third time this year.

• Carlos Sainz’s DNF for Williams was the only retirement of the race, after he took third in Saturday’s Sprint.

• With team mate Alex Albon finishing P15, it was Williams’ first pointless Grand Prix since Hungary.
