Nyck De Vries sealed a Spanish victory by keeping a cool head out in front while the rest of the pack raced right to the wire, in the Round 3 Sprint Race. Second-placed Luca Ghiotto was a party to the late show, leaving it until the final lap to overtake Ferrari Junior Callum Ilott and leave him in third for his first ever F2 podium.
It was a first win of the season for Dutchman De Vries after a surging start saw him follow Renault junior Anthoine Hubert between Ilott and Jordan King. He was forced to wait for his chance to claim P1 as the Carlin of Nobuharu Matsushita went up in flames and brought out a Safety Car.
With the Japanese driver unscathed and the blaze extinguished, racing resumed and the Dutch driver wasted no time in flying around the Frenchman on the main straight, with the help of DRS.
