FORMULA 2: Fighting Latifi takes Feature Race victory

Nicholas Latifi played the long game in Spain to seal a third victory of the season in the final laps of the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race and extend his lead at the top of the driver’s championship.
The DAMS driver - who serves as F1 reserve for Williams - had sat behind Chinese rookie Guanyu Zhou for the majority of the race, but just as front two Anthoine Hubert and Jordan King were about to pit, the team radio rallying cry of: “You will be fighting with Zhou for the win,” rung in his ears. This proved all the impetus the Canadian needed, as he subsequently took a tow from the Renault junior before blistering past him down the main straight for the race win.
Zhou eventually finished third, behind Campos’s Jack Aitken, but arguably the most impressive drive of the afternoon came from the man on pole. Luca Ghiotto had suffered a horrendous start to the race, dropping down to fourth by the first corner, before being forced into a front-wing change when he was clattered by Dorian Boccolacci’s Campos - which subsequently dumped him in last place. Despite this, his UNI-Virtuosi machine somehow ended up in fourth come the chequered flag, behind.
