Robert Shwartzman set up a thrilling title showdown tomorrow in Sochi, scoring pole position on home turf ahead of rival Jehan Daruvala.
The Russian hasn’t qualified higher than third since Round 1 in Barcelona, but switched on the style with the Formula 3 crown at stake and gave himself a 37-point lead, with just 44 left to play for.
It took three purple sectors on the final tour of the Sochi Autodrom for the Ferrari Formula 1 junior to seal pole, having seen off attacks from both of his team mates, and the in-form Trident of Niko Kari. He would eventually finish at the summit of a PREMA 1-2-3.
To further spice things up, Armstrong warned the title rivals in the post-Qualifying press conference of the long run to Turn 2, when, unlike them, he will have nothing to lose.
