HIGHLIGHTS: Catch the action from FP1 for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix as Piastri sets the pace
Formula 1 Drivers' Championship leader Oscar Piastri set the pace in the opening practice session for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, heading McLaren team mate Lando Norris.
Piastri, who has taken victory in the last three Grands Prix, posted a 1m 16.545s just after the halfway point in the one-hour session using Pirelli's C6 compound, the softest tyre in Pirelli's range which is making its debut this weekend.
FP1: Piastri sets the pace from Norris and Sainz during first practice in Imola
Norris trailed by just 0.032s as less than one-tenth covered the top five cars, which included Williams' Carlos Sainz, the Mercedes of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari.
The session was halted early following a crash for Kick Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto at the final corner, with the returning Franco Colapinto finishing 17th aboard his Alpine.
