Max Verstappen won a thrilling Spanish Grand Prix from Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton, who recorded his first podium of the season for Mercedes.
The action was non-stop from the word go, with George Russell making an electric start from fourth on the grid to take the lead of the race – but he couldn’t hold it for long, and soon Verstappen was out in front and doing everything he could to keep the rapid McLaren of Norris at bay.
With plenty of different strategies in play, the order didn’t fully shake out until late on, with Hamilton’s late charge to third earning him a first podium since Mexico last year.

Carlos Sainz couldn’t deliver for the home fans in the end, scoring points but finishing some way off the rostrum in sixth. That’s better than compatriot Fernando Alonso managed though, the Spaniard enduring a terrible start as he was forced wide and never recovered back into the top 10.
