HIGHLIGHTS: Watch the key moments from first practice at the Portuguese GP
Formula 1 returns to Portugal this weekend for the first Portuguese Grand Prix since 1996, and the drivers got their first taste of the Portimao track in the opening practice session on Friday.
As has become something of a tradition this season, it was Valtteri Bottas who set the pace in FP1 from Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull's Max Verstappen.
Unlike the last race at the Nurburgring, there was no bad weather to prevent running – though there were a few spots of rain during the session – as all the drivers managed to get a decent amount of mileage under their belts at this new-to-F1 circuit.
Plenty of them tested the track limits, with several having their times deleted for pushing it too far, while there were also a number of spins as they all tried to acclimatise to the course. Hit play in the video above to see all the key moments from the session.
