He’s certainly in the best spot to do so – overtaking opportunities being few and far between around the Circuit de Monaco – but behind him he has an ambitious team-mate, two super-quick McLarens and a resurgent Mercedes. And then there’s Max Verstappen. After eight straight pole positions, the Dutchman has cut a subdued figure all weekend and starts P6. Is this an off-week for the reigning World Champion – or will seeing five cars lined-up in front simply poke the bear?
