Oscar Piastri executed a perfect getaway at lights out for the Spanish Grand Prix as his team mate had a poor start, allowing his rival Max Verstappen behind him to roar past and claim second place on track.
While the polesitter's reactions were rapid, Lando Norris slipped back to P3, losing one position. George Russell, who charged from fourth to first at this race last season, similarly lost out on the opening lap, being overtaken by both Ferrari drivers as Lewis Hamilton improved to P4 with Charles Leclerc just behind.

With everyone on the grid starting on soft tyres, there were plenty of aggressive moves – the second Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli was seen taking a trip off the circuit and subsequently dropping back to P7, just behind his team mate.
