Raikkonen disqualified from qualifying results in Baku, to start from pit lane

Kimi Raikkonen has been disqualified from the results of qualifying in Azerbaijan after the front wing on his Alfa Romeo failed a post-session front wing deflection test.

The decision means that Raikkonen is now set to start Sunday’s race in Baku from the pit lane, having replaced the front wing, along with Red Bull's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Robert Kubica. The Finn had originally been due to start from P8, moving up one spot because of team mate Antonio Giovinazzi's grid penalty.

"The Stewards find that the front wing of car 7 deflected more than 5mm under a load of 60 N," read a stewards report. "[This is] in breach of Article 3.9.8 of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations."

The rule exists to prevent teams producing a wing that bends under load that in turn offers an aerodynamic advantage.

It means Ferrari's Charles Leclerc will be promoted to eighth on the grid, having crashed out during Q2 when favourite for pole.

Earlier on Sunday, Williams announced they had opted to start from the pits with Kubica, following his crash in qualifying, to allow for them to make further set-up changes ahead of the race.

Meanwhile, Honda have made a change to Gasly's power unit, after his RB15 exceeded fuel flow limits during qualifying. It means a pit lane start, but he was already set to start from there anyway after he failed to stop at the weighbridge earlier in the weekend.
