No one took their foot off the gas going into the final race of the season, with fights up and down the field in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Add in some practice crashes and a few qualifying surprises, and the airwaves made for some very interesting listening…
Max Verstappen wasn’t having it all his own way in practice with his RB19 having a rare off day. That wasn’t as bad as what happened to Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg though, with both crashing out.
The slew of rookies got in on the act too, some sounding mature beyond their years but a few in for a nasty surprise – not least Jack Doohan, who wasn’t impressed with one of his fellow drivers.
Come qualifying, Charles Leclerc was confused by his front row starting slot while Lando Norris was left rueing a costly error. But the race will be remembered for George Russell’s insistence on being in the know when it came to the points permutations, while Leclerc employed some unusual tactics in a bid to seal second for Ferrari.
