Montreal delivered a great race, with Max Verstappen grabbing the Canadian Grand Prix win in style for Red Bull. But it wasn’t plain sailing for the Dutchman, nor those following in his wake. The airwaves were full of varying emotions up and down the field all weekend – with the race engineers doing their best to calm their increasingly agitated drivers.
A heavy downpour on Friday left Valtteri Bottas wondering if the weather might be better suited to something other than F1 cars, with the rain then contributing to plenty of impeding moments in qualifying. Pierre Gasly was left highly unamused after being bundled out in Q1, but Alex Albon made it all the way to Q3, to the excitement of his Williams team.
In the race, it was all pretty straightforward for Verstappen until he hit a bird, while Fernando Alonso hunted victory and George Russell was left red-faced after a rare error.
