The 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix got under way beneath grey skies in Budapest, with George Russell holding off the attack of Carlos Sainz to maintain his lead from the first pole position of his career.
Further back, Russell’s Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton enjoyed a lightning start from P7 on the grid, but was forced onto the run-off at the exit of Turn 1 – but not before he’d secured P5.

Behind, and having announced his F1 retirement at the end of the season on Thursday, Sebastian Vettel found himself in a spot of bother after contact with Williams’ Alex Albon, bringing out a brief VSC as debris from the collision was cleared.
