WATCH: Ride onboard for Valtteri Bottas's fastest lap of Friday practice in Hungary
Valtteri Bottas capped an encouraging day by following up second place in FP1 with the top spot in FP2 for the Hungarian Grand Prix, setting a fastest lap that was 0.027s faster than that of Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton - and the quickest on the day.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen was the fastest driver in FP1 with a benchmark of 1m17.555s but Bottas beat that to go fastest in FP2, beating the heat with a time of 1m17.012s.
Amid conditions he likened to a Finnish Sauna, Bottas said that Mercedes are firmly in the fight for pole position on Saturday – but there are thick rainclouds on the horizon. Hamilton filed in second and Verstappen was third in the second practice session, 0.298s off the pace.
