Sergio Perez has only had to wait 215 race weekends, but the Mexican has finally secured an F1 pole position. He did it is style too, needing to pull out all the stops after Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc had crossed the line ahead of him to set the mark for the Red Bull man to chase.
But Perez managed to go just a few hundredths faster, his 1m 28.200s beating last weekend’s pole-sitter Leclerc into second by just 0.025s. Admitting that the team had chosen to focus on race pace, Perez is now well placed to chase down a third career victory when the lights go out in Jeddah.
