WATCH: Ride onboard with Verstappen on his sensational pole lap in Montreal
Max Verstappen was the man to beat to beat in Montreal, as the championship leader braved the tricky wet conditions at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to produce a dominant performance in qualifying, and seal his first pole position since Imola.
Verstappen produced a stunning last lap of 1m 21.299s on the intermediate tyre, to lead his nearest rival Fernando Alonso, in second, by 0.645s. Carlos Sainz, in third, finished 0.797s behind Verstappen.
