Zhou Guanyu and Alfa Romeo were the pace-setters on the second day of pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit, using soft tyres to mark the first time this week that a Ferrari or Red Bull has not led the way in a session.
Zhou’s headline time aside, Red Bull and Ferrari – 2022’s pace-setters – have been widely tipped by paddock personalities to continue where they left off last year, with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff stating that their “fast” pace is “not a surprise”.

Meanwhile, McLaren admitted to missing some of their pre-season targets following a low-key start with the MCL60, and Sergio Perez got his first taste of the Red Bull RB19 after watching team mate Max Verstappen complete the full opening day.
