Max Verstappen grabbed a thrilling pole position for the British Grand Prix, beating the McLaren duo at Silverstone in blustery conditions. The margins were incredibly tight throughout Qualifying, with plenty of drivers rueing their luck as they wound up just on the wrong side of the cutoff. Verstappen grabbed his fourth pole position of the season, and his 44th for Red Bull which ties Sebastain Vettel’s record for the team.

This was Red Bull’s 107th pole position, which ties Lotus for fifth on the all-time list.

Verstappen and Oscar Piastri are now tied this season with four poles each.

Piastri was second, as he became the first team mate to ever out-qualify Lando Norris at Silverstone.

Verstappen and Piastri also shared the front row in Jeddah in that order.

Norris grabbed P3, starting third here for the second straight year. This was the first time he has been out-qualified by a team mate here in his eighth visit.

George Russell was fourth, for his eighth top-four start this season.

Russell has out-qualified Kimi Antonelli 11-1 this season so far.

Lewis Hamilton out-qualified his team mate for the third time in the last four race weekends with P5.

Hamilton has two wins here from outside the top three on the grid, and both those races were held on July 6th – in 2008 when he won for McLaren, and in 2014 when he won with Mercedes.

Charles Leclerc grabbed sixth, with neither Ferrari qualifying in the top six here last season.

Antonelli was seventh but will drop three places thanks to his grid penalty.

Ollie Bearman grabbed his best-ever qualifying performance with P8, but has a 10-place grid drop.

Fernando Alonso reached Q3 for the fifth time in the last six Grands Prix.

Pierre Gasly rises to eighth thanks to the Bearman and Antonelli penalties, despite being P19, P18 and P20 in the three practice sessions.

The Frenchman has only started higher than eighth once this year, when he was P4 in Bahrain.

Gasly has reached Q3 seven times this year despite Alpine being P10 in the Championship.

Williams missed a slot in Q3 at Silverstone for the first time since 2020.

But Carlos Sainz will move forward thanks to penalties, so he will have his first top-10 start since Imola.

Yuki Tsunoda was 12th, having never previously started higher than P13 at Silverstone.

Isack Hadjar made Q2, to continue his run of never being eliminated in Q1 this year.

Esteban Ocon was 15th, having not reached Q3 here since 2020.

Liam Lawson and Gabriel Bortoleto both made Q3 in Austria, but both tumbled out in Q1 at Silverstone.

Both Kick Sauber cars were eliminated in Q1 for the third time this season.

Lance Stroll was 18th for his third consecutive Q1 elimination this season.

Nico Hulkenberg was out in Q1 for the eighth time this year, but finished ninth in Austria from last on the grid.

Franco Colapinto was P20 for his third Q1 elimination in six races for Alpine – the same as his predecessor Jack Doohan.

Only 0.688s covered P1 to P19 in Q1, slightly more than the record – 0.593s at Austria last season.
