Who gained and lost the most positions in the Sao Paulo Sprint?

Mercedes driver George Russell won an action-packed F1 Sprint at Interlagos, leading home the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz and Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton to secure P1 on the grid for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Russell started the 100km dash third but made up two places over 24 dramatic laps, clearing pole-sitting Haas driver Kevin Magnussen in the early stages and then overhauling Red Bull rival Max Verstappen in a thrilling battle.

At the end of it all, it was Magnussen’s team mate Mick Schumacher who made up the most ground, rising from P20 to P12, with third-placed finisher Hamilton – who will move up to P2 on the Sao Paulo GP grid after Sainz’s engine penalty – completing a next-best five passes.

Alpine team mates Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso were the joint biggest losers, dropping 11 places apiece after their dramatic collisions and once Alonso had been handed a five-second penalty for the second of those, with Albon (nine places lost due to his retirement) and Magnussen (seven spots lost) also tumbling down the order.
